ANGIE + AARON / puerto vallarta destination wedding photographer

I loved so many things about Angie & Aaron’s wedding. When we got to Puerto Vallarta we had never met Angie or Aaron but the second that we arrived we felt completely welcomed into their amazing circle of family and friends, who had rented out an entire boutique resort for their wedding! It was such a memorable weekend full of so much love and joy. Almost 4 years later, this is still one of my favorite weddings I have ever photographed!

Since then, we’ve kept in touch and last year they became parents to a beautiful little girl! I love being able to witness the beginning of a family on a wedding day and the growth of that family throughout the years. It makes what I do so rewarding. So as I was looking through adorable photos of their little girl on Facebook I decided I had to feature Angie & Aaron’s wedding on the blog and ask her a few questions for fun!

Thank you so much for asking us to be a part of your wedding, Angie & Aaron. You are some of the kindest and most genuine people that I know and, from the bottom of my heart, I wish you an amazing lifetime together.

I always love hearing what photos are favorites of my couples, so what are some of your favorite photos from your wedding day?

How can I narrow it down? I love them all so much! But here are a few: the one of Aaron and his mom dancing, the shot where Aaron is holding up my dress for me, the one where I am coming around the corner with the parasol…Seriously, I could go on and on… (keep scrolling to see her favorites!)

Hello ridiculously gorgeous bride!!

The photo of Angie walking to her ceremony holding the green parasol is still, 4 years later, one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken. Glad to know she loves it too :)

Aaron had such an amazing reaction when he saw his bride walking down the aisle to him. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

I think they love each other :)

What is a piece of advice you would give to brides-to-be about planning their wedding?

Relax. Seriously. The moments that you love and cherish will have nothing to do with the favors, or programs, or where you sat people.

The black and white photo of Aaron holding up Angie’s dress as they walk away from their ceremony has been the most requested shot by my brides over the last 4 years, hands down!

What is a piece of advice you would give to brides-to-be about marriage?

Always appreciate each other. Say thank you for the little things as well as the big things. Never take anything for granted. And always treat your spouse as #1. That last one gets a little harder when you have a baby, but we still try to do it :)

What is one thing you love most about your husband?

He can get along with anyone. Everyone loves him. And I never have to worry about him at parties, even when he doesn’t know a soul there. He is always able to strike up conversations and come away with friends. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me how great he is, and I absolutely agree.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Walking out and seeing Aaron at the end of the aisle, the pictures we took of just the two of us before the reception, and the fireworks!

Yes, they had surprise fireworks on the beach, just for their wedding! None of their guests knew until they started going off and it was such a magical moment!

This wedding knew how to party! Aaron ended up going behind the bar to “bartend” and got Angie’s mom to do a shot! So funny!

No better way to end a wedding night than jumping in the pool!

And a few shots from their day after session in downtown Puerto Vallarta!

CIRCA 2006 KATIE + JIM / nashville wedding photographer

I think it is so important to take time as people to reflect on where we have been, where we are and where we are going. In honor of that idea, I’m sharing a wedding today from September of 2006! Katie & Jim were married at a private family lodge on a gorgeous fall day over 3 years ago. I love looking at weddings from years ago because it reminds me of 2 things: First, the more we do something the better we get. I’m always striving to photograph the next wedding better than the last. Second, I want to tell the story of a wedding day in a classic, timeless way. I want my couples to look back on their wedding photos years later and still remember what that day felt like. A matchless moment in time. Truly timeless.

Katie wore her mother’s veil. I love when things are passed down and bring a deeper meaning to the moment.

Katie & Jim were married in front of a little pond surrounded by willow trees. I will never forget how beautiful the day was.

Jim’s sister and father performed at the reception. It was such a touching moment.

JUICING / fruit & bread

We finally got a chance to try out one of our Christmas gifts, a juicer! For those new to the scene, my husband & I have been following the Body for Life lifestyle for a couple years now; working out 6 days a week, eating 5-6 small really healthy balanced meals a day and then Sunday is our day off to eat whatever & relax. So I’ll have to say that being raised in Iowa I was taught to like the basic vegetables, corn on the cob & green bean casserole. Those are vegetables, right? Okay, ya, so one of the things I have had to adjust to most is eating more vegetables. So in comes the Christmas gift, a juicer! This thing makes intaking celery possible because as a kid whenever we had Ants on a Log for snack I always picked off the raisins, licked the peanut butter off and threw away the celery. The recipe we tried tonight was 2 small apples, 3 full carrots (wash them but don’t peel) & 1 stalk of celery. It was surprisingly good and sure beat feeling like a cow chewing on grass to get my vegetables :)

STEPHANIE + KELLY / bahamas destination wedding photographer

I loved this wedding for so many reasons. Stephanie & Kelly were beautiful, sweet and so in love. The weather & the light on their wedding day was gorgeous. The setting was magical. Stephanie & Kelly’s friends & family came from all over to celebrate with them and made us feel like part of the family. And yes, the day after their wedding, they jumped into the ocean in their wedding clothes at sunrise. See the last photo for proof! So today I thought I would share their wedding with all of you beautiful people out there because it always makes me smile and is guaranteed to warm up any cold day.

This was the view we saw from the airplane as we descended into the Bahamas. Oh, how I love thee, Caribbean Sea.

Veils and oceans are two of my favorite things :) I think it’s so fun when bridesmaids wear different colored dresses that are casual and all compliment each other! Talk about a walk down the aisle! This was one of my favorite shots from the day. The joy and emotion from Stephanie & Kelly’s dads was so real. I love family :) Reception outside overlooking the ocean? Yes please! I told you they jumped in :) Kristyn Hogan is a wedding & lifestyle photographer in Nashville, Tennessee photographing fabulous people in Nashville, Iowa and worldwide. www.kristynhogan.com

mindy - So pretty...love the vibrant colors!

Kate Crafton - *sigh* This makes me miss the beach so much. I love how rich the images are....perfect style for what seemed like a perfect day! Great seeing you last night too!

Jenna Henderson - Beautiful photos! Very inspiring...

Stephanie - Kristyn, how sweet! Kelly and I look back at our pictures all the time and always say how incredibly thankful we are that you and your mom were a part of our wedding. Not only did you ladies help get me into my dress when my mom and aunt couldn't figure it out (haha!), you calmed my pre-wedding nerves by making me laugh and most importantly, you guys captured every special moment so beautifully. I can't say thank you enough!
